Why was the Bichard Review commissioned
Following independent review of internal governance failing within RICS caried out by Alison Levitt QC, 2021, RICS commisioned Lord Bichard to undertake further review to: clarify purpose of RICS, recommendation on its govering structure and proposal for income leadership and govering body.
What were the recommendations of the Bichard report 2022
36 recommendations, 7 key:
Prioritise public interest by revising the RICS Charter.
Simplify governance with decision-making by RICS members and independent regulation.
Separate commercial activities from professional functions.
Promote diversity and inclusion across the profession.
Increase regional autonomy and engage younger members.
Lead on societal issues like sustainability and climate change.
Conduct regular independent reviews every five years
How does your company encourage diversity?
Recently signed a partnership with BAME in Property to encourage companies to become more diverse. They also have a number of diversity networks within the company that aim to create positive change within the company and encourage an inclusive recruitment process.
What is unconscious bias?
Associations that are deeply ingrained in us and have developed through our experiences and upbringing. It leads to attitudes that influence us and impact how we interact with people. As a result, we need to slow our decision-making process down and asking ourselves why we are making these decisions.
