Why was the Bichard Review commissioned

A

Following independent review of internal governance failing within RICS caried out by Alison Levitt QC, 2021, RICS commisioned Lord Bichard to undertake further review to: clarify purpose of RICS, recommendation on its govering structure and proposal for income leadership and govering body.

What were the recommendations of the Bichard report 2022

A

36 recommendations, 7 key:
* Prioritise public interest by revising the RICS Charter.
* Simplify governance with decision-making by RICS members and independent regulation.
* Separate commercial activities from professional functions.
* Promote diversity and inclusion across the profession.
* Increase regional autonomy and engage younger members.
* Lead on societal issues like sustainability and climate change.
* Conduct regular independent reviews every five years

How does your company encourage diversity?

A

Recently signed a partnership with BAME in Property to encourage companies to become more diverse. They also have a number of diversity networks within the company that aim to create positive change within the company and encourage an inclusive recruitment process.

What is unconscious bias?

A

Associations that are deeply ingrained in us and have developed through our experiences and upbringing. It leads to attitudes that influence us and impact how we interact with people. As a result, we need to slow our decision-making process down and asking ourselves why we are making these decisions.
