  • Survey for Cathodic protection performance and Anode wastage
17
Q

  • Pressing tanks with water and checking for leaks
18
Q

What does IWS stand for?

A

In-Water Surveys

19
Q

What intervals can a IWS may be taken?

A

2 Inspections have to be taken within 5 years at a maximum of 36 months between the 2. One of these can be a IWS.

20
Q

Are there exemptions for older vessels to have a IWS?

A

A vessel over the age of 15 years can request special consideration if fully justified and supported by the surveyors report regarding the hull.

Oil and Bulk vessels over 15 years and part of the Enhanced Survey Program (ESP) cannot apply for a IWS.

21
Q

How far in advance to you need to inform you’d like an IWS?

A

No less than 4 weeks before the survey is to be undertaken.

22
Q

Are there any requirements for a IWS?

A

Yes, the vessel needs to be in a calm protected are with weak tides ( less than 0.5 knots. The water should be of good visibility and a good amount of water under the keel. Ideally it also has to be in a low traffic area to minimise disturbances. Preferably the vessel should be at anchor.

23
Q

A

  • Radiography
  • Ultrasonic
  • Dye Penetrant
  • Electromagnetic
