1
Q

What is the function of the surveyor?

A

Paralleling instrument, designed to select the most favourable path of insertion and to aid in preparation of guiding planes.

Q

What is the function of the analyzing rod?

A

It is used to determine the relative parallelism of axial surfaces, analyzing contours, and undercut areas without marking the cast.

Q

What are the functions of the surveyor?

A

Determine most favourable path of insertion (Presence of suitable undercuts while eliminating hard and soft tissue interferences) and establishing appropriate guide planes.

Delineate height of contour of supporting teeth

Determine areas of teeth that may be used for the denture retention

Identify proximal tooth surfaces that are parallel so they act as guiding planes during placement and removal (if parallel walls not available we need to create parallel interproximal surfaces)

Assist the relieve of master cast: Shaping and cutting wax.

Placement of precision attachments: Internal and external attachments

Preparation of surveyed crowns

Assist mouth preparation

Q

What techniques are used for path of placement?

A

Roach technique: Perpendicular to insertion plane (occlusal plane), defined by 3 points on the model

Bisector/Roth technique: Average inclination of the supporting teeth

Applegate technique: Establish best incline of the cast where the height of contour of supporting teeth is located between gingival and middle third or the position that favours the mouth preparation
