Laparoscopy (normally midline incisions); minimally invasive, camera assisted
whipples procedure (longitudinal incision through belly) removal of pancreas, first segment of small intestine and gallbladder
cholecystectomy (laparoscopic); minimally invasive-> removal of gallbladder
Colectomy (open procedure, long vertical incision through the belly) removal of whole/part of colon
Thoracic Surgery
Thoracotomy (posterolateral incision to the right or left of chest wall) invasive long surgery e.g. lobectomy, pnumeonectamy
Video assisted thoracic surgery (small incision to the side of the chest wall, minimally invasive removal of lung segment
Cardiac surgery
Sternontomy (vertical midline incision through the sternum): invasive CABG, MVR, AVR
