Q
Metabolic compensation
A
METABOLIC COMPENSATION
mechanism by Renal system, in which plasma pH can be altered by varying the excretion/retention of HCO3.
o Occurs in response to respiratory acidosis or alkalosis.
o Slower, yet greater ability to restore norms.
- Metabolic Compensation for a Respiratory Acidosis (hypoventilation high CO2) is to retain and therefore increase HC03
- Metabolic compensation for a respiratory alkalosis (hyperventilation low CO2) is to excrete through the kidneys and decrease HCo3
