Surfacesm Boarders And Impressions Of The Lungs Flashcards
Where is the apex of the lung?
Extends superiority into the root of the neck, above the first rib
What are the 3 surfaces that the lungs have?
Mediastinal, costal and diaphragmatic surface
Describe the costal surface
Close to the ribs/costal cartilage and intercostal spaces
Describe the mediastinal
Close to the mediastinum anteriorly and vertebral column posteriorly.
What does the mediastinal surface contain?
The hilum of the lung
Describe the diaphragmatic surface
Sits on the diaphragm
What are the three boarders on the lung?
Inferior, anterior and posterior
Describe the inferior
Separates the base from the costal surface
Describe the anterior
Separates the costal surface from the mediastinal surface. The anterior border of the lung is relatively straight, whereas the anterior border of the left lung has a deep cardiac notch
Describe posterior
Separates costal surface from the mediastinal surface. The other two borders are sharp, but the posterior border is smooth and rounded
What are impressions in the lungs?
The mediastinal surface of the lungs are closely related to several structures. These structures leave impressions in the spongy surface of the lung.
