What is the main function of the lungs?
Oxygenate blood by bringing inspired air into close relation with deoxygenated blood in the pulmonary circulation
What lung is larger?
The right lung it has 3 lobes
Why is the right lung larger than the left?
Because the middle mediastinum containing the heart bulges more to the left than the right
Where are the lungs located?
On the left and right of the thorax
What the lungs separated by?
Mediastinum which is located centrally in the thorax and contains the heart, great vessels and trachea
What are the lungs surrounded by?
The pleural cavities
Where does air enter an leave the lungs?
Via the main bronchi which are branches of the trachea
What do pulmonary arteries deliver?
Deoxygenated blood to the lungs from the right ventricle of the heart
Where does oxygenated blood return to?
The left atrium via the pulmonary veins
