SUP-01: Jurisdiction/Mutual Aid
What are the limits of jurisdiction?
- No member may be used or called upon for service at any industrial dispute unless actual violence has occurred therein, and then only by written order of the Governor.
- Members shall not exercise police powers on a reservation or other property of the U.S. unless requested by the person in charge of the reservation or property.
- Members have no police powers in any MA Correctional facility, except by direction of the principal officer.
SUP-03: Media Relations
Who SHALL be the authorized source for the dissemination of all press releases.
- The Office of the Superintendent; or
- Media Relations.

Who SHALL NOT become unilaterally involved in media relation efforts unless approved by the Office of Superintendent or Media Relations.
Members assigned to the AGO, DA, OSFM, or other agencies.
- Troopers SHALL NOT be compelled to do television or radio interviews against their wishes.

SUP-04: EAU
When SHALL Supervisors notify the EAU of potentially unhealthy stress that is likely to cause issues to members?
No later than 18 hours following the occurrence.
- EAU can recommend members for TMD-Colonel approves.
- Colonel may place members on ADMIN Leave or ADMIN Duty.
SUP-04A: Critical Incident Stress Management Team (CISM)
Who manages the CISM team and which organization SHALL they maintain membership within?
EAU
- Membership with the Massachusetts State Peer Support Network (MSPSN).
SUP-05: SP Chaplain Corps
How often SHALL the Director of the SP Chaplain Corp conduct meetings to share information, discuss goals and objectives, and other issues of interest?
Bi-Annually
SUP-06: Binding Written Agreements
What SHALL all MOUs include?
- Beginning and end dates and conditions;
- Procedures for modification or amendments; AND
- Procedures for termination, if necessary.
SUP-12: Office of the Ombudsman
Key points to note.
- Ombudsman provides a confidential, neutral, and informal process to help resolve work-related issues.
- Not use names of individuals w/o their permission.
- Considered confidential unless there is a safety threat.
- Department WILL be notified of any alleged criminal conduct.
- No case records kept BUT notes to manage an ongoing case may be.
- Quarterly and annual statistical report is prepared for the Office of the Superintendent-identities will be confidential and anonymous within any report(s).
