Eisenhower and Khrushchev meet face to face for the first time at presidential ranch.

Paris summit conference and U-2 spy plane incident May 1960
USSR announced that they shot down a U-2 spy plane from USA. America tried to claim it was a weather plane but were caught lying. They refused to apologise and said it was necessary. this made relations worse
Vienna, June 1961
JFK became president of the USA. they met for the first time so Khrushchev took a tough approach on Kennedy but still no agreements were reached on Berlin
