Meaning:
Summer farm is an intensely metaphysical poem. The description have hidden meanings and significance to them. Much of what is in the poem is about himself and his position in the universe.
Stanza 1
‘Green as glass’ - vivid imagery, enjambment and simile
‘Nine duck wobbling in two straight lines’ - Kinaesthetic imagery and numbers to add to the detail.
Stanza 2
‘A hen stares at…’ - Connotation, Hen, extended metaphor of thoughtless mind. ‘A swallow falls…’ - Kinae… imagery and enjamb.. to describe movement, perhaps thoughts appear and disappear
Stanza 3
‘Afraid of were a thought might take me’ - Apprehension of how a thought could disturb peace. ‘Unfolds his legs and find himself in space’ Enjamb…/metap… connotation showing readiness of the mind to get preoccupied with thought.
Stanza 4
‘lift the farm like…’ - Experiences in our life, collected if a man chooses to look within one, one would be able to open the doors to the soul and discover true self. ‘Farm within a farm…’ Expresses experience by maintaining his discovery of true self behind the experiences he gathered over time.
