He writes about the beauty of the city that he sees and the potential it has to be something greater than he can imagine.
First four lines
Creates the impression of the city by personifying nature and the city. Nature is making London seem beautiful. Nature and London are working together in unison. Imagery, to make the city seem alive and powerful.
‘Never did sun more beautifully steep’
In this moment the city is more beautiful than nature, he fully appreciates London in the morning ‘never’ had he seen the sun rising as beautiful as before. Houses are effortlessly beautiful due to the lack of humans
The sonnet
Doesn’t flow, no rhyming couplet, declaring love for London. Wants to be a love poem, but not constrained by the traditional structure.
