sugars Flashcards
Organic
Come from living thinks like plants or animals, Carbon Backbone, and have either C,H,N,O,P,S
Inorganic
Come from nonliving things like salt, water, and carbon dioxide, Contains Carbon OR hydrogen but not both
What are the 4 macro molecules of life?
Carbohydrates, Proteins, Lipids, and Nucleic acids
Carbohydarates
main source of energy in animals, and structure in plants
Proteins
Build and repair body tissues
Lipids
Fats, Development (brains), structure of cell membranes, insulation Nervous system
Nucleic acids
Information storage, DNA
Carbo
Caarbon
Hydrate
Water
Simple Carbohydrates
Sugars, like glucose, that all living things DON’T to break down. Glucose is delivered to cells through the bloodstream. Processed Foods
Complex Carbohydrates
A single glucose molecule linking 2 glucose molecules. This is called Maltose. Complex are mainly starch and NEED to be broken down
Fructose
made of a single glucose molecule found in fruit, vegetable, and high fructose corn syrup. sweetest of all natural sugars.
Glucose
A sweet monosaccharide that we use for energy. It is also known as blood sugar.
Sucrose
Table sugar, Linking a Fructose molecule with a Glucose molecule.
Disaccharide
A sugar made of 2 Monosaccharides bonded together like maltose and sucrose.
