Why is knowing the meaning of suffixes important
It can help you determine the meaning of an unknown word by looking at its parts
what is a suffix?
A suffix is a word part that is added to the end of a base word.
A suffix changes the base word’s meaning.
If you didn’t know the meaning of the word forgetfulness, how could your knowledge of suffixes help you to determine its meaning?
I could look at its parts.
I see 2 suffixes and a base word.
The suffix -ful means full of.
The suffix -ness means state of being or condition.
Forget means to not remember.
If I combine all 3, I can see that forgetfulness means being in a state where you fully do not remember.
