Class
Depolarizing neuromuscular blocker
Mechanism of Action
Acts as acetylcholine in the synaptic cleft of the neuromuscular junction, causing depolarization, which blocking neuromuscular transmission, resulting in muscle paralysis
Indications
to facilitate intubation
Contraindications
hypersensitivity, penetrating eye injuries, narrow-angle glaucoma, inexperienced provider, post-acute burn/crush injuries, personal or family history of malignant hyperthermia
Adverse Reactions
muscle fasciculations, fractures, cardiac arrest, ventricular dysrhythmias, hyperkalemia, wheezing, respiratory depression, apnea, aspiration, hypotension, bradycardia
Dose -> Adult
1-1.5mg/kg max 100mg
Dose -> Pediatric
1mg/kg
Route
IV/IO and IM (not ideal)
Special Considerations
- Does not affect LOC! Sedate first!
- enhanced by lido, procanimide, beta blockers, mag sulfate and other NMBS
- have tube kit ready to go
- lasts 2-3 mins
