Q

What happens if there is an increase in substrate concentration?

A

The higher the substrate concentration the faster the reaction
More substrate molecules means more successful collisions between a substrate and an enzyme and so more active sites will be used

Q

What is saturation point?

A

Reaction increases up until saturation point
After that, there are too many substrate molecules as all of the active sired are full and adding more substrate makes no difference to the rate of reaction

Q

When does the rate of reaction decrease?

A

Substrate concentration decrease overtime during a reaction so if no other variables are changed the rate of reaction will decrease overtime too
This makes the initial rate of Richmond the highest
The enzyme substrate complex has to disassociate before the active sites are free to accommodate more substrates

Q

What happens in the graph?

A

Steady increase as more substrate molecules are available
All active sites used
Increase substrate concentration has no further effect
