Enzyme Concentration Flashcards
What happens if you increase enzyme concentration?
Other factors are kept the same
More enzyme molecules in a solution the more likely a substrate molecule is to collide with one and form an enzyme substrate complex
So this increases the reaction
What happens if the amount of substrate is limited?
There comes a point where there’s more than enough enzyme molecules to deal with all the available substrate so adding more enzyme has no further effect
What happens in the graph?
Steady increase as more active sites are available
If substrate amount is limited an increase in enzyme concentration eventually has no further effect
Rate of reaction no longer increases and the curve flattens out
