Q

Melphalan

A
  • Looks like amino acid but it carries mustard gas reactive part, not specific
  • Targets cancer bc cancer cells quickly proliferate which means they need more amino acids
  • Hence, used to treat cancer

Q

Aspirin

A
  • Carboxylic acid in aspirin binds to a part of COX which brings the ester into close proximity of the OH in COX and leads to the formation of covalent bond

Q

Why is mustard gas so dangerous?

A
  • Due to intramolecular rxn which makes it extremely reactive
  • If nitrogen changed to a carbon, it would be less reactive / wouldn’t do intramolecular rxns
