stuff Flashcards
1
Q
Disulfiram
A
- Forms a covalent bond with acetaldehyde dehydrogenase which prevents the formation of actin acid
2
Q
Melphalan
A
- Looks like amino acid but it carries mustard gas reactive part, not specific
- Targets cancer bc cancer cells quickly proliferate which means they need more amino acids
- Hence, used to treat cancer
3
Q
Aspirin
A
- Carboxylic acid in aspirin binds to a part of COX which brings the ester into close proximity of the OH in COX and leads to the formation of covalent bond
4
Q
Why is mustard gas so dangerous?
A
- Due to intramolecular rxn which makes it extremely reactive
- If nitrogen changed to a carbon, it would be less reactive / wouldn’t do intramolecular rxns
5
Q
Covalent Functionality
A
Typically the reactive part is an unsaturated ketone or epoxide
