Schistosomiasis
A
Flatworm infection, >200 million infected
- Drug = praziquantel (R enantiomer), (know structure slide 17, chiral center)
Good
- Single oral dose
- Active against all species of schistosomes
- Safe in first trimester and lactation
Bad
- Rarely offers complete cure
- Best against adult worms, younger worms far less susceptible
Any new drug must engage the target product profile!
