Study cards round 2 Flashcards
When does the exhaustion phase start
the exhaustion phase of the General Adaption syndrome model begins after an extended period of the stressor being present in the organisms life.
What is a response cost
A response cost is a form of punishment which involves removing a valued stimulus, where or not it’s linked to the behaviour or not.
What memories are stored in the cerebellum
The cerebellum stores Implicit memories, which is made up of procedural memories and classically conditioned memories.
what is the discriminative stimulus
the discriminative stimulus is the antecedent stimulus, this is the stimulus that the behaviour is renforce to.
What is a perceptual distortions
This is when a persons response to a stimulus differently from how it is commonly perceived
What stages of sleep do the elderly have trouble entering
The fourth stage of Nrem sleep
What is one weakness of the evolutionary theory of sleep
It does not explain why we sleep.
What are three factors that can contribute to the development of a specific phobia
GABA dysfunction, cognitive bias and long term potentiation. Rumination does not lead to the development of a specific phobia.
What is one advantage of using the mean score to summarise your results.
It provides information on how scores cluster around a central group.
Explain how Parkinson’s can be treated
Medication can be used that mimic the role of dopamine in the brain, it does so by having the same distinct chemical shape. This would then bind to the receptors and have an inhibitor effect allowing for more control over fin motor movement. you must also talk about the lock and key process
What is classical conditioning
classical conditioning is a process of learning that occurs through the repeated association of two stimuli.
What is the process of classical conditioning
First the NS elicits no response and the unconditioned stimulus elicits an unconditioned response (unlearned), next the NS and the Unconditioned stimulus are repeatedly paired producing the unconditioned response, finally the NS becomes the Conditioned stimulus and elicits the conditioned response.
What are characteristics of a mentally healthy person
A mentally healthy person can make the most of their potential, cope with the challengers of everyday life, nd can function and play a full part in their family, community, workplace and amongst friends.
What does it mean to operationalise the IV and DV
Operationalising the variables mean to define and explain them is terms of the specific method used in the experiment.
What are some examples of psychological risk factors
Rumination, poor self efficacy, stress and impaired reasoning and memory.
