Blood vessels and nerves that supply thr skin
Connects to underlying muscles
Epidermis of THICK skin:
Covers palms of hands
Soles of feet
Contains 5 cell layers
Stratum Coreneum:
The outer layer of most of the epidermis
Contains several layers of dead keratinocytes that shed
Forms a protective barrier from water
Stratum Basale:
Single layer or cubical cells
Regularly divide by mitosis to replace old keratinocytes that come off of the stratum corenum
Thin Skin:
Covers all parts of the body except for palms of hands and soles of feet
The stratum lucidum is absent
Stratum corenum is much thinner
