Muscle Tissue Flashcards
The cells of muscle tissue:
Muscle fibers, elongated fibrous shape
Three types of Muscle Tissue:
Skeletal muscle
Cardiac muscle
Smooth muscle
All muscle fiber cells are excitable:
Excitable- excitable membranes recieve/respond to stimuli from nerves/hormones
All muscle fiber cells are Contractible:
Muscle fibers contain conttactile proteins that allow them to change length that generate force that creates movement
All muscle fibers are elastic:
Muscle fibets can return to their original length after contracting
Skeletal Muscles:
Tendious attachments to bone or soft tissue and cross 1 joint
Voluntary movements by pulling on a bone to initiate action at a joint
Has STRIATIONS and several nuclei in each cell
Cardiac Muscle:
Located ONLY in the wall of the hear wall
Involuntary contractions of the heart chambers(heart beat)
Less organized strations
Cnetrally located nuclei
Cells only have 1 nucleus
Smooth Muscle:
Located in the walls of internal organs
Involunatry movement of functions of organs
Lack striations
1 centrallt located nucleus
Cells overlap like bricks
