Nervous Tissue: Neurons Flashcards
The primary tiasue of the nervous system
Nervous tissue
Nervous tissue function:
Maintaining homeostasis
Ensure bodily functions are carried out
Conducts impulses along nerve fibers to target organs
How does the nervous system provide reception:
Uses sensory receptors to detect changes that occur inside the body and the sorrounding environment
How does the nervous tissue provide integration:
Interprets and intergrates sensory input by storing information as a memory and producing thoughts
How does the nervous tissue provide response:
It respondes to sensory input by initiating muscular contractions of glandular secretions
The structure and functional unit of nervous tissue is?
A neuron or nerve cell
A multipolar neuron contains:
Cell body
Large nucleus
Organelles
Axon
Dendrites
Other cells in the nervous system are called:
Neuroglia/Glial Cells that support and protect the neurons
Dendrites function:
Serve as contscts to recieve impulses from other neurons
Axons function:
Geberate electric impulsee and transmist them to other cells at special junctions aka synapses
