Structure Narrative And Form GCSE Flashcards
Parallels
By the end of the book both Victor and the creature become almost identical.
Both have taken lives and are both driven by the want for revenge
Narrative frame
Allows readers to form their own opinions about Victor and the monster.
We first believe that the monster is a horrific beast however once we hear his side of the story we get to see why he did what he did.
Same with Victor. Victor is called a “wonderful man” but in the creatures narrative he curses Victor despising the man.
The use of multiple narratives allow shelley to teach us a moral lesson on over ambition . Through Victor and the monsters tale Walton gives up his quest in fear of suffering Victors same fate.
Light symbolism
Lighting inspires Victor to work with electricity . The lightning “utterly destroyed” a huge oak tree . The violent nature of lightning could also be referring to Victors over ambition
