Chronological order
Events being told in the order in which they happen in
Non chronological order
Events being told In a different order to how they happened
Sequence or progression of events
The order in which things are narrated or described
Flashbacks
A section when we suddenly go back in time and experiance something that has already happened as it in the present
First person
They writer includes themselves in what they are saying
Second person
The writer speaks directly to the reader or someone else
Third person
The writer tells the reader about other people e.g he she
Past tense
Narrating things that have already occured
Present tense
Narrating things that are happening at that moment
Future tense
Narrating things that will happen in the future
Direct speech or dialogue
Speech written down word for word in speech marks
Juxtaposition
Two opposites or very different things placed close together to add effect
Paragraph
A section of text that focuses on one main idea. Thy can be different lengths from a whole page to one line
Sentence forms
Simple , compound , complex and minor
Time words
Words or phrases that relate to what time it is or how the time is passing
Change in mood
When a different mood or atmosphere is introduced
Change in focus
When the subject or topic being written about changes. “ it was about a match but now a hotdog”
Change in perspective
When the viewpoint from which it begins changes “ it was from the protagonists view point but now its their best friends view points”
Cyclical structure
When a text begins and ends with the same idea , language , event , situation
Repetition
When word phrases , sentences or ideas are repeated throughout the text
Withholding information
When something is kept a secret from the reader at least for a while.
