What are the 2 types of Stroke
- Ischaemiac Stroke (blood flow to brain is stopped)
- Hemorrhagic Stroke (bleeding around or in brain)

brief interruption of blood to brain
How to treat Transient Ischaemic atack
Aspirin 300mg until diagnosis
How to treat acute Ischaemic Stroke
- Aspirin 300mg for 14 days
- Alteplase (4.5 hours before treatment)
How to treat Hemorrhagic Stroke
Manage blood pressure
(avoid statins)
What is the BP target for Long term management of Ischaemic Stroke
< 130/80
What is the long term management of Ischaemic Stroke: 1st Line
1st Line:
Clopidogrel
(manage hypertension without beta blockers)
What is the long term management of Ischaemic Stroke: 2nd Line
2nd Line:
Aspirin + MR Dipyridamole

When should you offer Lipid Lowering agents
- Patients under 85 with QRISK >10
- Patients with Type 2 diabetes and QRISK >10
- All type 1 diabetes
- Patients with chronic kidney disease
- History of Hyperlcholesteroleamia
