weakness in one arm
speech slurred or garbled
sudden loss of vision, dizziness, difficulty swallowing, sudden and severe headache

how to diagnose it

A

non contrast CT demonstrates haemorrhages
MRI shows changes/asymmetry
bloods, ECG, carotid doppler and angiography are further investigations

how to treat ischaemic

A

thrombolysis (streptokinase)
anticoagulant (warfarin, heparin)
vasodilator
statins

haematoma evacuation

craniotomy - disc of bone removed from skull to allow access to underlying brain
