stress management techniques
thought stopping-when neagtive and irrational thoughts occur, perfomer uses a learned trigger to remove them
postive self talk-where perfromer replaces negative thoughts with positive ones
imagery-recreate a successful image of action from past perfomer when skill was performer successfully
visualisaiton-using mental image of skill
mental rehersal-process of going over movements of task in mind before action takes place
cue utlaition-the ability to process info is diractly linked to the level of arousal
somantic stress managment techniques
biofeedback-technique uses a measuring advice to help the athlete recognise the phsyical changes that will happen when under stress
progressive muscle relaxation-where performer alternates between a state of tension in a gorup of muscles to state of relaxation in same muscles
centering-form of breathing control when at apporpirate tiems, the sports perfoemr can learn to relax the shoulders and chest and concetrate on slow movement of abdomical muscles when taking in deep controlled movements
