Strength Training Flashcards
Improve Acceleration
Strength Curve
It is best achieved through Explosive Strength (your ability to turn on as many muscle fibers possible and leave them on).
In the strength curve, the angles of “A” should become greater and greater (positive acceleration).
To increase acceleration, you must accelerate while you train.
Acceleration should be your second area of concern. It should only be started after a strong Limit strength but before starting strength and amortization or they will not be ready for such stress.
Limit Strength
Strength Curve
The amount of musculoskeletal force you can generate in one all-out effort. Also achieved under the influence of supplementation and/or types of therapy. More important than Absolute Strength.

Improving Starting Strength
Angle Q (Strength Curve)
To be able to turn on as many fibers at once instantaneously. While acceleration can be gradual, Starting Strength is not.
Any type of training involving quick starts should improve Starting Strength.
Improve Speed Strength
Fmax, Tmax, & F/T
Speed strength is comprised of Starting and Explosive strength. Increasing the angles of A & Q will also improve speed strength.
By obeying the Principles of Overload & SAID Principlr your speed strength will improve.
The relationship of Limit strength and Fmax should be kept as small as possible.
Never worry of becoming big and bulky with these principles…

Improve Ammortization
Many athletic skills require a short Ammortization. Skills that involve a short ammortization phase are purely ballistic in nature.
They involve two primary components:
• Starting Strength
• Stretch Reflex
Both are improved with plyometrics
Improving Factors of the Strength Curve
shorten the Ammortization Phase Angle Q increases Tmax decreases F/T ratio improves so on…
