The Angle of “Q”

A

Starting Strength.

The steeper the line, the greater number of muscle fibers you will have simultaneously recruited in the movement.

Factor Two:

The Angle of “A”

A

Draw several lines along the length of the upward curve. Measure the angle of each tangent and compare each angle to the preceding one.

1⃣ Each subsequent angle gets smaller (going slower)
2⃣ Each subsequent angle stays the same
3⃣ Each subsequent angle gets bigger (going faster)

Force

A

The maximum amount of force you produce during any given movement is called Fmax.

Only when you force yourself the hardest to reaching a limit which may seem impossible.

Factor Four:

Time

A

Measure how long it takes from the beginning of upward (concentric) movement to exert maximum force (Fmax) is called Tmax.
Usually is best to make Tmax as short as possible.

Factor Five:

The Relationship Between Time and Force

A

(P = fd/t) — Power = Force • Distance per unit Time

Similar fashion, Fmax / Tmax = Explosive Strength.

If starting strength (the “Q” angle) is your ability to turn on as many motor units as possible, then explosive strength is your ability to leave them turned on.

Factor Six:

The Relationship Between Limit Strength and Fmax

A

In any athletic movement, Tmax is so short that it is not possible to get all of your motor units activated, not even close!

Limit Strength would be lifting weight and was a stressful situation for many coaches before because adding strength would mean adding weight which would become a loss of speed and endurance and positive acceleration ( a steep “Q” angle) let alone greater explosive strength.

Factor Seven:

Amortization Phase

A

It is critical in most sports that you work hard to:
1⃣ make it possible to maximize the sum of all force involved in producing maximum force output, while
2⃣ keeping yourself uninjured!
The very thought of turning the amortization phase (that brief moment between eccentric and concentric contraction) into a checkmark-sharp direction change is enlighten to make one cringe!
