Strength Testing Flashcards
Observation of functional skills
-skilled observation, no equipment
-children who are not able to follow directions
Con: no specific, inferences
MMT
Isometric muscle strength in specific position, no equipment
-ability to follow direction (as young as 3)
-following ortho injury/sx to gauge progress, conditions indicating yearly strength measures
Con: no info about strength through ROM
Handheld dynamometer
Isometric in specific position, 3 tests and average second 2
Standardized procedure needed
Objective measure of even small gains/losses, normative dates, children as young as 28 mo
Any child able to follow direction, gauge progress post injury/sx, condition indicate yearly strength measure
Measures can be unreliable
Isokinetic dynamometry
Isokinetic machine, controls or measure velocity, child attempts to move as quickly as possible
-full arch of motion, eccentric or concentric.
Pt must be trained, expensive
