strenghts and weakness on data Flashcards
strength of qualitative data
- more detail and more insight into participants world
- greater external validity
weakness of qualitative data
- difficult to analyse as it’s not summarised statistically
- may rely on subjective interpretations of researcher, so BIAS
strength of quantitative data
- simple to analyse
- less open to bias and more objective
weakness of quantitative data
-narrower in scope, may fail to represent real life
Strength of primary data
-it fits the job, so it’s authentic data from the participants themselves, so they target the info the researcher is looking for
weaknesses of primary data
-required time and effort from researcher which can take long whereas secondary can be accessed in minutes
strength of secondary data
Data is not expensive and can be accessed easily with minimal effort
weaknesses of secondary data
- may be a substantial variation in the quality and accuracy
- may be outdated or incomplete
- may not match researcher’s objectives
strength of meta analysis
allows the data to be viewed by the researcher with much more confidence and the results can be generalised across much larger populations
weaknesses of meta analysis
prone to publication bias which is often referred as a file drawer problem
-May choose to leave out studies with negative or non-significant results
