Q

Main benefits of STR

A
  1. Releases muscle tension
  2. Improves flexibility and posture
  3. Takes pressure off associated joint structures
  4. Stretch tissues without needing full ROM

Q

What are the 7 steps of performing an STR?

A
  1. Identify the muscle that needs to be stretched and the direction of the fibers
  2. Ensure muscle is in a neutral position
  3. Explain procedure to client
  4. While muscle is in neutral, gently lock starting proximal
  5. Maintain the lock and stretch the muscle
  6. Once the muscle has been stretched, release lock and return to neutral
  7. Choose another point distal to first lock and repeat until reaching tendon
