MWMS Flashcards
1
Q
T/F there is a physiological adaptation in (M) grade 1&2
A
False
2
Q
Name the 3 benefits of (M) grade 1&2 mobs
A
- Neurophysiological effect used daily to reduce pain
- Neutralizes joint pressure
- Prevents grinding
3
Q
Name the 3 benefits of (M) grade 3&4 mobs
A
- Mechanical effect used 3-5x peewee to treat hypomobility and stiffness
- Increase ROM through capsule mobility and plastic deformation
- Mechanical distension/ stretching of tissue
4
Q
Name the 3 benefits of (K) grade 1&2 mobs
A
- Equalizes cohesive and atmospheric forces of joint
- Alleviates pain by unloading and decompressing
- Nullifies normal compressive forces
5
Q
Define MWMS
A
The simultaneous application of therapist-applied accessory moments and patient generated active movements.
6
Q
What are the 5 tips for MWMS?
A
- Use good body mechanics
- Allow gravity to assist
- Use short levers and place hands as close to the joint as possible
- Mobilize below pain threshold
- Never cause pain
7
Q
What are the 7 basic principles of MWMS?
A
- Techniques should never be painful
- One or more of the following indications should be present: loss of jt. Movement, pain with movement, pain with specific functional activities
- Passive accessory joint movement applied (must be pain free)
- Continuously monitor patients reaction to ensure no pain
- Should produce immediate benefits
- Repetitions are necessary. 3x10 recommended
- Must be some lasting improvements.
8
Q
What are the recommended parameters for the 1st and subsequent visits?
A
1st visit -> 3x6
Subsequent -> 3-5x6-10
9
Q
T/F therapist force should be perpendicular to the movement
A
True
