Stochiometry Flashcards
State Charles law
At a constant pressure, the volume of the mass of any given gas is directly proportional to the Kelvin temperature.
What is one mole of a substance?
The SI unit for amount of substance containing Avogadro’s number of particles
What is boyles’ law
At a constant temperature, the volume of a given mass of any gas is inversely proportional to the pressure on the gas.
Avogadro law
Equal volumes of gases, under the same conditions of temperature and pressure contain equal numbers of molecules.
Ideal gases
Ideal gases obey all the assumptions of kinetic theory under all conditions of temperature and pressure
State 2 assumptions of kinetic theory
- Collisions are perfectly elastic
2. Average kinetic energy is proportional to the Kelvin temperature
State Gay-Lussac’s law of combining powers.
In a gaseous reaction, the volumes of gaseous reactants and any gaseous products are in the ratio of small whole numbers provided volumes are measured at the same conditions of temperature and pressure
Give 2 reasons why real gases deviate from ideal gases
- There are attractive/ repulsive forces
2. Diameters of particles are not negligible compared to the distances between them
