Def

A

Also called Wry neck/torticollis is a muscular disorder in which the neck is twisted and the head is pulled to one side. It’s usually caused by a poor sleep posture, improper turning of the neck or exposure of neck to pathogenic wind cold

Etiology

A

Qi and Blood Stasis –> Improper pillow height

                   - -> Improper sleep posture }Chronic Strain of mm in neck
             - --> Muscular sprain
             - --> Sudden turn of head } Acute mm sprain in neck

Invasion of Wind Cold –> Exposure to wind cold during sleep
–> Living in wet place } Disturbance of local
circulation of Qi and Blood in Meridians

Differentiation

A
*Pain on one side*
Radiating to shoulder and arm
Worse/occurs at night
Limited ROM
Palpate for meridian involved

–> chronic can be due to degeneration of cervical spine: numbness, slow onset etc. Need an X-ray to rule this out

–> Meridian Differentiation, palpate, ROM difficulties - “Moving acup
