Split Duty Limitations
Standard FDP can be extended by half of the period of rest taken
Period of rest between 3 and 10 hours
- Rest less than 6 hours, quiet and comfortable place away from public
- Rest more than 6 hours or 3 hours or more between 2200 - 0800 local time, suitable accommodation
- Rest in aircraft on ground:
* Must be 6 hours or less

Duty Cycle?
Duty periods undertaken between DDO’s
Extended Break (EXB)?
Period away from home base
Minimum 30 hours
Suitable Accommodation
Flight Duty Period?
From Sign on of the Duty (Actual reporting time) to chocks on or engines off (whatever is later) on the final sector or whenever the crew member is free from all flight duty for the remainder of the flight.
Where can Flight Time Limitations be found?
OPS A Chapter 7
Before utilising the FDP tables, what must be done?
UTC must be converted to LT before referring to the tables
For split duty, when does rest period start?
On arrival at hotel, does not include travel time
Calculating split duty, maximum FDP
Calculate total FDP from departure time to arrival.
Add 1:10
Figure out Max Duty from Table A
Calculate difference in these two figures and double to work out minimum rest required
Split duty limitations?
Min rest: 3 hours
Max rest: 10 hours
Max FDP with split duty: 18 hours
Can be extended up to 2 hours with Commanders Discretion
Commanders Discretion?
Normal operations: can extend a maximum of 3 hours
LRO/ULRO, Split duty, In Flight Relief etc: can extend a maximum of 2 hours
Part A 7.2.1
Reduced rest to extend FDP?
You can but only to a max of 2 hours
Extended FDP regulations for next rest period?
Next FDP must be reduced by the same amount as reduction of rest during extended FDP period
Definition of acclimatised vs unacclimatised?
When a crew member finishes a duty period at a place where the local time differs by more than 3 hours from his home base time zone, he will be considered unacclimatised.
An unacclimatised crew member can be acclimatised again if:
a) he finishes a duty period at home base, or at a place with the same time zone no more than 48 hours after the start of the last duty period which took him away from home base or;
b) he has completed a recovery period
In Flight Relief?
When the total in-flight relief is longer than 3 hours, standard FDP can be extended as follows:
1) When a bunk is available by a period equal to one half of the total relief, provided that max FDP permissible is 18 hours
2) When only a seat is available, by a period equal to one third of the total relief, provided that max FDP permissible is 15 hours
Recovery period?
A period free of duty following a duty cycle on completion of which, a flight crew member is unacclimatised and is longer than 48 hours
