4R Flashcards
Pilot incapacitation actions
Ensure the aircraft is under control, engage autopilot
Declare an emergency
Use the cabin crew if available. When practical try to restrain the pilot, slide seat to full aft. Engage harness lock to restrain pilot
To what height is a GS capture from above approved?
Intercepting GS from above is only authorised down to the charted FAF/FAP, GS intercept altitude or to cleared ILS approach intercept altitude.
If the cloudbase and visibility allow terrain separation visually, then intercepting the glideslope from above is permitted down to a minimum height of 1000 ft AFE
Recommended actions for glide slope capture from above
Once established on the LOC:
- Arm APP (terrain protection), ensure GS armed
- Establish final landing configuration. Set the MCP to FAF/Cleared Alt/1000’+elevation
- Select VS, rate as required
What rate of descent might be required to achieve GS capture from above?
Between 1000 and 1500fpm
In VS, at flaps 5 with full speedbrake, what performance can be expected?
1500fpm - speed reduction possible
2000fpm - hold current speed
(FLCH 2200fpm)
Is the usage of speedbrakes with flaps greater than 5 recommended?
No
Why is the usage of FLCH for GS capture from above or after the FAF not recommended?
HOLD mode offers no speed protection in manual flight
Allows excessive rates of descent after the FAF
Recommended final configuration schedule
7nm - 2100’ - Flaps 20/Gear Down
6nm - 1800’ - Flaps 30
5nm - 1500’ - Flaps 25
If the GS is not captured by the chartered or ATC cleared intercept altitude, and in IMC, what is required?
A go around
When is “Minimum Fuel” declared?
After having committed at an airport, it is anticipated that any change to existing clearances may result in landing with less than planned Final Reserve Fuel.
It is not an emergency situation, however, indicates that an emergency situation might be possible if any delays occur.
How is fuel remaining for “Minimum Fuel or MAYDAY Fuel” calculated?
Taken from the lowest fuel figure, CALCULATED or TOTALISER/ECAM FOB indication
When is “MAYDAY Fuel” declared?
When it is assessed that the aircraft will land with less than planned Final Reserve Fuel at the nearest airport.
This is an emergency situation.
What speed above MMS is recommended in upset recovery?
MMS+15 knots
What interval is C in the DDG?
Within 10 consecutive days, excluding day of discovery
What are the interval categories for DDG?
A - Time specified
B - 3 days
C - 10 days
D - 60 days
