Clinical features and diagnosis of bacterial vaginosis

A

Thin white/grey homogenous discharge
Malodorous discharge
High vaginal swab and prepare a slide for gram stain and microscopy ….looking for presence of clue cells on wet prep slide
Vaginal fluid pH >4.5 (using pH paper)

A
Dysuria
Dyspareunia 
Discharge - white vaginal or penile d/c
Testicular or pelvic pain
ano-rectal symptoms (discharge, pain)
Intermenstrual bleeding
Post-coital bleeding

Endocervical swab or self collected swab for NAAT
First pass urine for NAAT (men or women, swabs preferred for women)

A

aciclovir 400mg tds for 10 days. Stop after 5 days if clinical response is rapid.
