Sternoclavicular Joint Flashcards
What type of joint is it?
saddle joint, clavicle and manubrium
convex longitudinally, concave transverse
Joint Capsule
divides joint into two separate cavities
interiorly attached to manubrium, superiorly clavicle
Movements of joint
elevation/depression, protract/retract
What are joints of ligament
A/P sternoclavicular, costoclavicular, intraclavicular
Ant. and Post sternoclavicular lig.
between sternum and clavicle
prevents: clavicle being pulled out, A/P displacement, too much depression of shoulder girdle
Costoclavicular lig.
ties costal cartilage and 1st rib to clavicle
prevents: clavicle elevation, A/P translation
Intraclavicular
connects two clavicles, across top of manubrium
prevents: seperation and upward pull durin scap depression
