Stats IV Flashcards
What is the odds ratio?
Odds of an event it the odds of occurrence in one group, relative to another group
What are binary variables?
When there are only two outcomes
How do you describe one qualitative and one quantitative variable?
Bar graph
What are the upper and lower parts of a box in the box and whisker’s plot?
Upper and lower quartile
What is the heavy line in a box and whiskers plot?
Median
What is spearman’s rank-order correlation coefficient?
A number between -1 and 1, that indicates the correlation (strong positive or strong negative)
How do you determine the significance level?
If Significance is not higher than the level of confidence (e.g. 0.05)
When would you use the spearman’s rank order coefficient, vs the Pearson’s?
Pearson’s = when you only have quantitative variables
Spearman’s when you have a qualitative and a quantitative variable
What is a regression line?
Line that minimizes the distance of all data points that fall from it
What is the pearson correlation coefficient?
Direction and strength of the linear relationship of two factors in which the data for both factors are measured on an interval or ratio scale of measurement
What is logistic regression used?
Applicable to qualitative or binary variables
What is a logistic regression used for?
When you have a qualitative variable as the dependent variable
Can you have a qualitative variable as the dependent variable in a linear regression?
No
What is the equation for pearson coefficient?
SSxy / (SSx * SSy)^0.5
