Q

What is the first limitation of the ‘statistical infrequency’ definition?

A

Some abnormal behaviour is desirable.

Example: High IQ

This leaves us unable to identify behaviours that require psychological treatment to help people cope with everyday life.

Q

What is the second limitation of the ‘statistical infrequency’ definition?

A

The ‘cut-off’ point is often subjective.

Sometimes symptoms of disorders

Example: Depression

are difficult to measure and assign a ‘statistical’ cut-off point to show were help is needed.

Example: sleeplessness or low mood.
