It is PERSISTENT and coupled with feelings of panic.

What are two cognitive characteristics?

A

SELECTIVE ATTENTION - When presented by thing, they will find it hard to direct their attention elsewhere.

IRRATIONAL THINKING - Resistance to rational thinking, you may not be aware that you are not in danger from thing but you will still feel the thing is dangerous and harmful.

They will also recognise that the fear is excessive (i.c. are delusional.
