Q

Pressure Altitude Defined

A

Pressure altitude is the altitude if it were a standard temperature day, what the altimeter would indicate if it was set to 29.92.

Q

To determine the winds and how it effects your airspeed what do you compare

4
Q

When computing takeoff/landing distance with charts, the speed that it tells you is for sea level, what difference does this make at different altitudes.

A

The difference is that you continue to make takeoff/landing with that speed but increase your groundroll for a changed true airspeed for a changed altitude

Q

Should you use flaps when performance is in question but there is plenty of runway?

A

Flaps will increase your drag decreasing your overall performance.

6
Q

Should you use flaps when runway length is in question

A

Yes, it increases lift allowing for a shorter ground roll

9
Q

Would the Oil Pressure / Oil Temperature gauges continue to run after a total electrical system failure

A

Oil Temperature is run by a self driven electrical system
Oil Pressure is run by mechanical means

They would both still run

13
Q

If the engine was flooded and wasn’t starting what are some ways to start the engine

A

Follow the POH/AFM, pull mixture all the way to idle, but throttle all the way forward and continue to start, if it eventually starts push mixture in slowly and pull throttle back.

14
Q

What effects does priming with the throttle have

A

When mixture is full and you start pumping the throttle this pushes fuel into the carburetor, this fuel can drip throughout the carburetor. If a backfire happens in the engine this could cause a carburetor fire.

Q

What is a Hot Magneto, How do you identify one, and what are the risks

A

Hot Magnetos are magnetos that are not connected to the mag switch, the magneto switch ungrounds magnetos so they can’t produce a spark.

You can identify a hot magneto by keeping the mixture in and turning off the magneto switch if the engine continues to run the magneto switch is still on, and you have a hot magneto.

Risks could be moving the propeller while you have a hot magneto if there is fuel in the engine while you check for a hot magneto the propeller could start cranking.

16
Q

What is the recommended oxygen procedures

A

10,000+ have supplemental oxygen (Day)

5,000+ have supplemental oxygen (Night) because your eyes are the organ that requires the most oxygen

17
Q

Rotating Beacon on during the daytime indicates what

A

The field is IFR

18
Q

Can you takeoff or land on an overrun for a runway

A

No

19
Q

Can you takeoff or land on a displaced threshold for a runway

A

You can takeoff from a threshold but you can not land

20
Q

VFR Cruising altitudes are based on what

A

Magnetic Course

21
Q

VORS are based on what

A

Magnetic Heading

22
Q

what is a Special VFR, what are Special VFR Weather minimums

A

ATC clearance to be below VFR weather minimums

Special VFR weather minimums are 1SM visibility and clear of clouds

23
Q

Where do you get a special VFR

A

From airport controlling agency or FSS

24
Q

What are Night Limitations of Special VFR

A

You must be instrument rated and the aircraft must be instrument equipped

25
Q

What is 122.9

A

MULTICOM frequency, unmonitored frequency

26
Q

What are the radio NAVAIDs available and what are there corresponding equipment

A

VORTAC - OBS or DME
VOR - OBS
VORDME - OBS or DME
NDB - ADF

27

What is required to be completed before manuevers

A

Clearing Turns
