Staging of Cervical Cancer Flashcards
Stage IA
Stage 1 = Cervix only (ignore extension to corpus)
Stage IA = Can only be identified by microscopy. <5mm^a in size.
- IA1 = Up to 3mm in depth
- IA2 = >3mm up to 5mm in depth
Stage IB
Stage 1 = Cervix only (ignore extension to corpus)
Stage IB = >5mm invasion, still limited to the cervix
- IB1 = >5mm <2cm
- IB2 = >2cm <4cm
- IB3 = >4cm
Stage IIA
Stage 2 = Invasion beyond uterus but spread does not reach lower third of the vagina or pelvic wall
Stage IIA = Involves upper two thirds of vagina only, no parametrial involvement
- IIA1 = <4cm in greatest dimension
- IIA2 = >4cm in greatest dimension
Stage IIB
Stage 2 = Invasion beyond uterus but spread does not reach lower third of the vagina or pelvic wall
Stage IIB = parametrial involvement but not up pelvic wall
Stage IIIA
Stage 3 = Carcinoma involves lower 3rd of vagina/or extends to pelvic wall/or causes hydronephrosis or non-functioning kidney/ or paraaortic lymph nodes
- IIIA = Carcinoma involves lower 3rd of vagina, not pelvic wall
Stage IIIB
Stage 3 = Carcinoma involves lower 3rd of vagina/or extends to pelvic wall/or causes hydronephrosis or non-functioning kidney/ or paraaortic lymph nodes
- IIIB = Carcinoma extends to pelvic wall/ hydronephrosis or non-functioning kidney
Stage IIIC
Stage 3 = Carcinoma involves lower 3rd of vagina/or extends to pelvic wall/or causes hydronephrosis or non-functioning kidney/ or paraaortic lymph nodes
- IIIC = involves pelvic/paraaortic lymph nodes (size or extent is irrelevant)
- IIIC1 = Pelvic lymph nodes only
- IIIC2 = Paraaortic lymph nodes
Stage IV
Stage 4 = Carcinoma has spread beyond the true pelvis/has involved (biopsy proven) the mucosa of the bladder or rectum
- IVA = Spread to adjacent organs
- IVB = Spread to distance organs
