Stage one

A

Transition from wakefulness to sleep. Sleep happens in an instant. Slow decrease in muscle tension. Lasts about ten minutes.
Can see a ‘theta’ which is 4-7 cycles per second

Wakefulness/ relaxing

A

Alpha waves occur. Muscle tension still high. In a relaxed state.
When you awaken betta waves take over.

Stage two

A

Brief burrs of rapid brain activity called sleep spindles. Eyes stop moving. Low muscle tension. Takes a louder noise to wake you up. Lasts 20 minutes

Non rem 3

A

Both 3 and 4. Delta waves make up 10-50% of the teachings. Look for the big slow waves.
Continues to the deepest stage of sleep. Eyes do nothing. Low muscle tension. Usually no dreams. Night terrors, bed wetting and walking. Lasts 20-40 minutes

Rem sleep

A

Look for small fast close together waves. Can’t move in rem sleep. Have multiple a night. First lasts 5-10 minutes- last up to an hour can have 4-5 a night. Rapid eye movement

A

Ways for successful sleep

A

Sleep diary. Going to sleep everyday at the same time. Less tv. Relax in a bath. Sleep inducing snack. No caffeine. Exercise. Naps only 20 minutes long
