Benefits of sleep
Helps perception memory motor control. Make us feel safe. Helps physical growth. Stay relatively slim
Partial sleep deprivation
Deprived of rem sleep. We need ten sleep for procedural memories like a skill or sport. Non rem helps with language and telling stories.
Insomnia
Inhibitory to fall asleep after thirty minutes. Get less than six hours. Wake up many times. Dysfunctional during the day
Aging related to sleep
Biological clock shift. Less great sleep
Obstructive sleep apnea
Muscles at back of throat relax too much. Air flow stops from 20 seconds to one minute. Loud snoring.
Shift work
Need the same shift everyday for it to be okay. Forty time more accidents when on shift work
Jet leg
Biological clock out of synch with daylight cycle.
