What does ‘fixing’ mean

A

preserving specimens in as near-natural state as possible. Chemicals like formaldehyde are used to do this

What is ‘sectioning’

A

dehydrating a specimen with alcohol and then placing it in a mould with wax or resin to form a hard block. This block can then be sliced thinly with a knife called a microtome
