What are the functions of the ST?
What does the ST prefer/like?
- “rotting and ripening”
- transportation of Food Essence to the 4 limbs
- origin of fluids
likes wetness
causes: irregular diet and eating habits, especially eating late at night
sx: hungry with desire to eat constantly, dry stools/mouth/throat, vomiting and hiccups, thirst with drinking in small sips
tongue: dry red without coating; peeled in cnet or without root
pulse: rapid and thready, maybe floating
ST Yin Deficiency
causes: excessive consumption of hot and greasy foods, emotional depression
sx: burning sensation in epigastrum, sour regurgitation, thirst with preference for cold drinks, foul breath, voracious appetite and easily hungry, swelling and pain or ulceration of gums
ST Fire
causes: emotional, usually seen with other pathologies
sx: belching, hiccups, vomiting, nausea
tongue: no changes
pulses: tight on R Guan position
ST Qi Rebelling
causes: exterior cold invasion, excessive intake of raw and cold food
sx: sudden pain in epigastrium, dislike of P on abdomen, vomiting clear fluid, worse after ingesting cold foods
ST Cold
causes: irregular food intake, voracious eating, eating of food that is hard to digest
sx: fullness and pain in epigastrium, sour regurgitation, vomiting of undigested food, hesitant bowel movement, foul breath
tongue: thick coat
pulse: full and slippery
Food Retention in ST
causes: irregular food intake, voracious eating, eating of food that is hard to digest
sx: fatigue especially waking, weakness in limbs, epigastrium discomfort, loose stools, lack of taste and appetite
tongue: pale, later stages: will lack coating
pulses: empty R Guan position
ST Qi Deficiency
causes: Qi Stagnation, excess cold/heat
sx: severe stabbing pain in epigastrium (may be worse at night, worse with Pressure), vomiting (may contain blood, or look like coffee grounds), nausea
tongue: pale, later stages: will lack coating
pulse: empty R Guan position
ST Blood Stagnation
resembles ST ulcer in W. Medicine
