What are the functions of the KD?
- produces marrow and controls bones
- controls reception of Qi (brings Air Qi Downwards to LU)
- controls 2 lower orifices
KD is the gate of what and what does it do?
The Gate of Vitality (Ming Men)
- Root of Original Qi, source of fire for all organs
causes: chronic illness, overwork, excessive sexual activity; depletion of bodily fluid, blood loss, misuse of KD Yang tonics
sx: soreness of lumbar region, weakness of knees, tinnitus, abnormal and frequent erections, increased libido, premature ejactulations
tongue: dry, red with little or no coat; cracked/mirrored/peeled
pulse: rapid and thready
KD Yin Deficiency
causes: chronic illness, excessive sexual activity, damp retention, old age
sx: cold knees, sensation of cold in back, aversion to cold, pallor/dark face, prolonged diarrhea, copious clear urination, low libido
tongue: pale, wet, flabby
pulse: deep, weak, slow
KD Yang Deficiency
causes: congenital, poor nutrition, excessive sexual activity, prolonged illness, increase number of pregnancies
sx: slow physical development, poor MSK development, poor intelligence, late fontanelle closure, head hair loss, loose teeth, weakness of legs, premature graying of hair
tongue: small
pulse: thready and weak
KD Essence Deficiency
causes: old age, early lack of development of KD Qi, excessive sexual activity, prolonged illness
sx: poor hearing, sore back and knees, frequent, clear urine, frequent dribbling of urine, enuresis, remarkable nocturne, nocturnal emissions
tongue: pale
pulse: deep and weak
KD Qi Insecurity
causes: prolonged cough/asthma, LU deficiency, KD dz, chronic dz
sx: SOB on exertion, rapid and weak breathing, difficulty inhaling, cough, asthma, cold limbs, sore back and knees, swelling of face
tongue: pale
pulses: tight, deep and weak
KD Failing to Receive Qi
