What happened at Lexington and Concord?

A

The first shot fired there is called, “The shot heard around the world”. This triggered the minutemen to fire back. The British went there to capture Sam Adams and John Hanncock. Also that’s where the colonists stored their weapons. By the time they reach concord they already knew what had happened at Lexington.

Who led the Green Mountain Boys and what happened at Ft. Ticonderoga?

A

Ethen Allen led the Green Mountain Boys and the attack on Ft. Ticonderoga. They took it over to have access to cannons.
Ethan Allen teamed up with Benedict Arnold to take over fort ticonderoga and Henry Knox transported them.

A

A patriot who gave a speech to the House of Burgesses that included, “Give me Liberty or give me Death!” He is also known as a firebrand.
He convinced people to come together.

What happened at Bunker Hill?

A

On the Boston Peninsula the colonists expected the British to come one way but the British arrived on water. The Colonists lost the battle but were able to flee because it was a peninsula.
The battle actually took place on breed’s hill. The British attacked the Americans over and over again but the Americans were able to escape.

What happened at Dorchester Heights?

A

The cannon from Ft. Ticonderoga got shipped there and George Washington planned an attack on Boston to take control of it which he succeeded in.
The cannons from Ft. Ticonderoga wese sent to Washington who was at Dorchester heights and when the British saw them with cannons they knew they were done for after the attack at bunker hill.

What is common sense and its impact on the colonists?

A

Common Sense is a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine that was written to persuade people that it made sense to separate from England.
These writings were to convince people to become patriots. He wrote it in a way to make it seem obvious.

What is the Olive Branch petition and what is its purpose?

A

It was the colonists last attempt to prevent the war against England.
Not everyone was ready for war so we sent a petition to the king to gain peace without going to war. The king didn’t want to read it and just sent more soldiers.

The Declaration of Independence is a historical document which formally declared the colonists separation from Great Britain. It was signed in 1776.
This is the announcement of the war and it takes place on july 4th 1776 and it announces the separation of the colonies to britain

A

All men are created equal.

All people have basic rights that cannot be taken away.

The government gets its power to make decisions from the people and to protect the rights of the people.

When the government does not protect the rights of the people, the people have the right to alter or abolish the government.

A

The section that described how the king enslaved people and shipped them over to the colonies. It was edited because the colonists were still enslaving people.
The part that condemned slavery because the southern states were still using slavery and we needed to be unified.
